Filosofi Teras
In my journey writing this book, the most foundational concept I wanted to share is the dichotomy of control. It's a simple yet profoundly powerful idea from the Stoics that changed my life. The principle states that some things in life are up to us, while others are not. Our thoughts, judgments, and actions are within our control. However, things like other people's opinions, our reputation, our health, and external events are largely outside of our control.
My research, including a national survey on anxiety, showed me that so much of our modern stress comes from wasting mental and emotional energy on things we cannot influence. We get furious in traffic, anxious about what people think of our social media posts, and frustrated by outcomes that don't go our way. I explain that the first step towards tranquility—the 'teras' of our mind—is to consciously categorize every situation. By focusing solely on our own reasoned responses and accepting external events as they are, we reclaim our inner peace and stop being slaves to circumstance. This isn't about being passive; it's about directing our power where it truly matters.
