The Art of Happiness
As the Dalai Lama, I believe the fundamental purpose of our lives is to seek happiness. It's a universal aspiration, shared by all beings, regardless of their background or beliefs. We all desire contentment and want to avoid suffering. This isn't a selfish pursuit, but rather a natural inclination that, when understood correctly, can lead to a more compassionate and fulfilling existence.
My experiences have taught me that true happiness isn't found in external possessions or fleeting pleasures. Instead, it arises from within, from a calm and peaceful mind. It's about cultivating a positive outlook and developing inner resources that allow us to navigate life's inevitable difficulties with resilience and grace. This inner work is the foundation upon which lasting joy is built.
